[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Friends, it is rightly said that variety is the spice of life, and it applies to our pictures on TN too.
So I am taking you back to the year 2006 when I was working in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. I had only Sony P200 then -- a simple point-and-shoot camera. There was not much wild life in that city or country, so I had to do with what came my way -- even Cockroaches!
In the summer of 2006, wild bees made a honeycomb on a fig tree growing on our stamp-sized 'garden'. Though I was initially scared of them, gradually I started getting closer -- so much so that at one time, I would be a foot away from the comb with my camera and they would settle on my hands. It was a great moment of friendship and goodwill.
I posted three or four picture of the honeycomb in 2006. Then I moved to India in 2007 and forgot all about them until today when I took out my CD holders for the first time since my return and started looking at them one by one. I found my Riyadh pictures in one of them and was tempted to process this picture almost on an impulse. The outcome turned out to be quite good and I decided to post this picture today.

The picture was taken hand-held from a distance of half a meter in natural day light.
My purpose is also to demonstrate how I have learnt a lot about editing in the past three years through my association with TN. That is why I can never think of leaving it -- no matter how much Sturm und Drang it has gone through :).

Hello Ram
my mind dosent make me wrong:) I remember similar shot from former time and I have checked now your earlier post and I saw it from S. Arabia. This is really fantastic and wonderful close-up. sharp details, POV, composition and colors amazing beautiful. I can also see differences between earlier and now. I think this is valid for most of ours:) thanks for sharing this beauty and good notes.

Yes I remember these wild honeybees Ram.
This is a nice version taken with fine lighting and sharpness and I like the way they all point in the same direction in this excellent composition.

A striking and unusual image. The framing enhances the feeling of power and discipline in the swarm.
What size were they, individually ? From the colour, it looks like Apis florea, the Dwarf Honey Bee.

I have never seen such brightly coloured and solid looking honey bees.
I think I would be quite nervous getting as close to these as you did.

Great picture from your archives ! Even with just a point-and-shoot camera, you managed to get a wonderful and very interesting picture.
