Friends, I would like you to react to this picture mainly as a composition.
I took it in the early days of experimentation with my new Nikon D200. Birds were my first subjects and since I have lots of sparrows in the trees in our compound, I went for them first.
This picture was taken from the window of my friendly neighbour's living room window.

Date palms are in bloom these days. By mid May, we have bunches of green dates hanging from each young tree. They mellow and mature slowly. Every road and avenue in the big cities in the Middle East has these trees lining the well-kept road dividers for miles on end. This tree, in my opinion, is the boon to the desert countries in the world.
When dates are harvested by the end of the hot summers, a few strands of them are left untouched -- for birds and other creatures living on them. The owner of our compound makes it a point that enough dates are left for birds every year.

In this composition, a male sparrow perches on a date strand, happy and content with the riches around him, cheeping merrily.

I lost exif data on this picture when I erased the original raw file.

Hello Ram,
Composition looks just fine here. I have no complaints regarding the position of the bird. It's not dead centered. Not knowing the surroundings, it is hard to make suggestions for improvement. On the other hand, I love dates, and they are placed nicely at the edges as the center of attention for me :).

Hello Ram, you know your photos are wondeful every time. How exotic this scene is with the bird surrounded by Dates - and plenty of them! Your POV is perfect and I like the play between light and shadow, colours are astounding.

So how was your date with the bidie? :D. Its a wondrfull composition. I wonder why did you mention "Friends, I would like you to react to this picture mainly as a composition.". Did you have any doubts in mind about this pic while posting? Even without this request, this one stands for its compostion.The exposure is also excellant as almost all parts are clearly visible in the picture. Can see the branches in BG properly. Colors are well saturated giving a feel of sepia tone. Very well done.

This is a very beautiful composition indeed! The little bird looks lovely there in the midst of the bunches of dates and the vertical stalks adds to the composition. Colours are really fabulous. I think the haziness is rather attractive but I tried a workshop to see if that could be removed. Hope you don't mind.

The composition is wonderful!! I love the straight line of dates to the left of the sparrow. The colors are wonderful and it is a beautiful picture.

Splendid shot. So much to it. The vertical alignment of the dates works wonders. The subdued colours, haze and the light and shadow effect give it another dimension. The framing make it complete. Neat, sharp and pleasant. Very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hello Ram,
I like this unusual depiction of the House Sparrow and the pun in your caption. Though the sparrow is the main subject, the dates are also pretty significant in this composition, acting as a kind of inner framing.

Although this is a very busy image, it is also an outstanding composition with great atmosphere, colors and details.

Hello Sir,

This to me is ...is just like the pedestrian on the road trying to get a better view of the one by the window and the lovely home he/she lives in....

the color has a Retro feel, and the posture of the sparrow perched on the date grid framed well into a window, brings back memmories,when as a child i would perch myself on the top-window of my ancestral home and look out into the street and the outside world ...

Yes, these strands with and without dates make a lovey composition and create a wonderful environment for the sparrow. I love dates so I think sparrow too!

A very interesting picture and very full picture too. I really like the entire picture and its contents and the bird is just compliments really.

i do wonder though, is there a film of white 'cloud' or haze covering the picture? it seems like it is a little faded.. like an old picture.
