Friends, may I present to you today the nightware of all housewives -- a ROACH?
Don't blame me for posting a picture of it this year too.
Everything that can be seen by way of wild life is always welcome here in Riyadh, so here is the 2007 edition :-).

The note below is borrowed from Wikipedia:

Cockroaches (or simply "roaches") are insects of the Order Blattodea. The name of the order is derived from the Latin word for "cockroach," blatta. There are roughly 3,490 species in six families. Cockroaches exist worldwide, with the exception of the polar regions.

The English word 'cockroach' is derived from the Spanish 'cucaracha' through folk etymology.

Among the most well-known species are the American cockroach, Periplaneta americana, which is about 3 cm long, the German cockroach, Blatotella germanica, about 1½ cm long, the Asian cockroach, Blatotella asahinai, also about 1½ cm in length, and the Oriental cockroach, Blatta orientalis, about 2½ cm. Tropical cockroaches are often much bigger, and extinct cockroach relatives such as the Carboniferous Archimylacris and the Permian Apthoroblattina were several times as large as these.

When infesting buildings, cockroaches are considered pests; out of the thousands of species, however, only a handful fall into this designation.

Thanks, even for NOT looking :-).

Hi Ram,
Outstanding macro. Got it perfect and neat. It really gives the creeps looking at it and indeed it is a nightmare for everyone. They are even worse when they fly about. Nice POV and immaculate sharp details. You have chosen a good subject today. Very nicely composed and presented. Kudos.

Hi Ram,
Very risky business here..If you're going to send monster roaches through my monitor at me, I'll just have to keep a can of raid handy ;)
Nicely done.

BTW, here were I live we have needed expert help to kill them as all the flats was infected by them!
TFS and take care!

Hi Ram,

Aaaaaaaagh - I saw plenty of these when I taught in New York City. Amazing macro - a real closeup of all the details I remember. He is an interesting looking insect.

Jane

Another great macro from you Ram.
I've never seen a fluffy cockroach before.
I guess it just crawled out of some housewive cardigan ;)
Excellent work!
Steve

WOW,

what an image!
This is also the most resilient animal on the planet, pretty much lived as long as any creature there is. It was annoying dinosaurs.

Great capture and an amazing subject.

Hello Ram,

Hi Ram.
This is perfect sury. Excllent macro. Vey vell done. tfs. Stev

Perhaps this is where some of Hollywood's B monster movies give birth. It appears larger than life....and well, unless your REALLY into entomology, this particular combination of eyes and color give off a strange aura...

Naturally this depiction of the roach is perfecto' as so many of your pictures are. Thanks for sharing...

Hi Ram, amazing macro with splendid details, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hello Ram,
Excellent sharp close macro of a Cockroach, a shot that deserves a good look despite what you say in your amusing note.
You are certainly using your equipment with expertese: the detail and Dof being masterly.
TFS and have a good week!
Ivan

Hi Ram!
Fantastic macro! Excellent POV, DOF and grest colors. Well done!
regards
Dorota

Absolutely AMAZING detail....beautiful!
You managed to make a roach look beautiful. Yes, I still shudder thinking about it.

We forget sometimes how vital each piece of the ecosystem is. Back in the 90's when the BioDome was set up in Arizona, they left out the roaches and realized that in the section that was similar to the rain forest, they were not getting the composting effect in the dead leaves. So it became apparent that roaches are necessary. Poetic, huh?
