BEE WOLF

Friends, having nothing new to shoot these days (a cold wave is sweeping through north India at the moment), I too have dug deep this time into my archives and found a reasonably interesting picture of a Bee Wolf.
When I posted the first pictures of this insect in the summer of 2007 from Saudi Arabia, it did create a bit of controversy regarding its ID.
Anyway, here is another picture of this insect which is either Philanthus diadema or Philanthus triangulum.
Unfortunately, I lost the exif data on the picture after cleaning the hard disk of clutter.

Genus: Philanthus (bee pirates)
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Hexapoda
Order: Hymenoptera
Suborder: Apocryta
Superfamily: Apoidea
Series: Spheciformes
Family: Philanthinae

Thanks for looking and best regards.

Hi Ram

Lovely shot of this Bee wolf - the lighting is really good as are the colours. The detail and DOF are both really good too.

Here it has been very mild and very wet (I am told - I got back here on sunday) - lots of flooding.

Very nice composition and colours, the detail on the bee is astounding although perhaps the picture is a little over-sharpened for my taste. Excellent macro. Thanks.

Well Ram, obviously your archive contains some beautiful shots, that finely focused upside down Bee Wolf looks as if waiting for that bud to blossom a little! The detail of that compound eye is terrific! TFS.
