[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Since butterflies seem to have a field day on the TN, I thought I too might give it a try. Unfortunately, I have only one butterfly shoot to my credit; you can't have too many in Saudia Arabia. There are two reasons for it: firstly, butterflies are difficult to come by here, thanks to extreme climate and limited flora and fauna. Secondly, photography is a rather restricted activity here. You can't potter around with a camera around your neck, shooting anything at will.
To return to my one and only butterfly photo-shoot in Riyadh. We have a stamp sized "garden" on our premises -- nothing much, just a few unkempt sunflowers around a date palm.
On a hot day in May 2005, the miracle happened. A pretty butterfly landed in our garden. I made a mad dash for my camera and started chasing it around. As luck would have it, the visitor decided to stay on and play the game for a while. And, oh boy, did it play! I feel jealous of guys who post butterflies on the TN with their wings spread, showing all kinds of colors and patterns.
My visitor was a real tease. It showed me all but allowed me little -- side poses mostly. When it got bored, it just flew away.
Here is one of those side poses. As for its name, please don't ask me.

Hi Ram,
I think you're right this is a rare sight in hot and dray Arabian Desert, but what a nice pleasure to meet one of them!
I'ts Danaus chryssipus on my knowledge. Great photo: sharp and colorful. Maybe a little too small.

Good capture - small issues: the post is possibly a little small in sizing, so you are losing some impact;
unfortunately highlight in the background is overpowering it a little, but you have still managed to get good detail in the butterfly. Well done and TFS

Hi RAM,

This butterfly is called as "Plain Tiger" here in India, It is wonderful butterfly and its catterpillar feeds on milk weed. Ther pupa will have a golden dots on it!

Hi Ram, very well composed picture with beautiful rich colours and good details. The light blue in the left BG gives a perfect contrast to the soft reddish brown of the wings.
That very enjoyable picture could be enjoyed even larger in size. Very interesting to read the notes about the place the picture was taken.
