Nesokia indica (Gray et Hardwickw, 1832) - Kısakuyruklu Bandikut Fare [TR], Short-tailed Bandicoot Rat

N. indica ranges widely from N Egypt to Turkistan and from Türkiye to Pakistan, India and China. It has been known from Türkiye with single locality from Turkish-Syrian border, in Birecik (Ş.Urfa). In Syria, it is relatively a more common species. Our zoological expedition group found the animals of this species along the Euphrates (Fırat) River. They dig underground galleries in marshlands. The openings of the galleries are close each other. Some of them were around twice of an adult Black Rats (Rattus rattus). They are active after dark.

Interesting shot there. Typical small ears for a rat. But that beard I haven't seen before.

Hi Ahmet, its me again, very cute cubby rat with beard and poping eyes, never seen such a rodent like this before, I guess its endemic to some place, nice sharp close up to its head, the color is a bit dull but still could show the texture and details of its fur, TFS

mrb ahmet hocam

A fine portrait with pin sharp details, well done on the close-up work...
A well composed presentation, and I bet this little fellow is curious what is going on!
