Chalcides guentheri (Guenther's Skink)

It seems to be an endemic species of the southern Levant region. It has been recorded from a small area including N Israel, S Lebanon, NW Jordan and Golan Heights-SW Syria. Occurs in stepe habitats of Mediterranean ecozone. A tiny skink with elongated body, very reduced, fingerless limps. The head is elongated, not distinct from neck. The eyes are relatively large, with well-developed movable eyelids. Snout-venth lengt varies between 9 and 16 cm; original tail is usually nearly equal to body length, regenerated tail is shorter. A diurnal, highly secretive terrestril species. It spends majority of time under Stones and leaf litters around the bases of bushes. We found that this female specimen in the photo is oviparous as being different congeners (viviparous).

A well executed shot of a rarely seen legless lizard Bayram, your POV and DOF were quite good, rendering the whole lizard sharply in focus. Good work.

Beautiful shot of this endemic specie!
Good POV and compo!

Bayram merhaba,
Mustafa

It is very different species without legs from our Chalcides ocellatus with tiny four legs. But except for legs, its general view very similar. This is great work both scientifically and photographically.
Finally I like this famous and old trunk in Ege University. It has been used for many scientific photographs for herpetologists.
all the best.
Ahmet

Hello Bayram;
Wonderful animal. Photo is technically well done; overall sharp for example.
Good compo.

how can you find that animals? excatly good..

Deniz

Curioso y elegante ejemplar totalmente desconocido para mí. Buena presentación y enfoque.
Saludos Bayram.

Merhaba Hocam,
