Anas clypeata (Tr. Kaşıkgaga, En. Shoveler, Da. Skeand, Du. Slobeend, Fi. Lapasorsa, Fr. Canard souchet, Ge. Löffelente, It. Mestolone, No. Skjeand, Sp. Pato cuchara, Sw. Skedand)

Males in perfect plumage are easy enough. No other duck has such bold chestnut flanks, sandwiched by big white patches at the front and rear. Shovelers in most other plumages, especially young or moulting males, usually show more than a hint of rich, ginger colouring on the flanks, and females also show bolder black and brown feathering than a female Mallard. Juveniles may stand out because their posture is typically Shoveler-like, as if their front end is sinking, causing the rear to tip up. A good view of the bill though will end all speculation. In flight, the big bill, pointing down at a slight angle, makes Shovelers look very long headed. They have obvious pale grey forewings and pale underwing coverts but they lack pale bellies. Their wings make a characteristic chopping or whooshing rather a whistling noise.

A fine capture of this beautiful Shoveler specimen while it is taking a bath Mustafa, those flying droplets frozen in the air make this a fine composition, while the high level of detail on the plumage and on the uniquely shaped beak is quite pleasant to watch. TFS my friend.

Dr, eline sağlık. harika bir çekim olmuş. hanımefendi sanki biraz erkeğine nazire yaparcasına poz vermiş. sanırım pek çok arkadaşın dikkatinden kaçmış -keza benim- bu kadar güzel bir fotoğrafa pek az yorum gelmiş nedense. bir ihtaimal thumbnail-pul şeklinde pek dikkat çekmemiş olabilir. selamlar.
