[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Botaurus stellaris (TUR: Balaban, ENG: Bittern): This fourth bittern photo in my pages, however, ı liked this one very much and choose for you. As I mentioned before, in Sazköy area we count 6 bitterns several times. Unfortunately we saw last time 2 death bittern there. The area is a very dense hunting area and they were mostly possible that shotted mistakely by hunters. Up un my explanations, our local outhorities closed the area for hunting for the next season. I am very happy for this reason.

According to this information 6 individual from Sazköy is very important record. Because all Turkish population estimated as 30-500 individual. On the other hand I counted the birds only a small part of Sazköy area, so the total bittern size may be 15 or even more.

It's not often we see a Bittern in flight here and this is an excellent capture. Very sharp details - I like the big feet showing - and beautiful light and colours. It looks good against the blue water. Well done!
