Hi friends, after a short break including our herpetological trips to SE and E Anatolia, now I am here with you. Hope everything was gone on well for all of you during my absence on TN. I would like to share and dedicate this beauty -which I photographed it in Adiyaman Province during our trip- to my all TN friends.

The males are quite gorgeous with their black heads, brilliant yellow underparts and rich reddish-brown upperparts. The females are much duller although they often show at least a hint of yellow, especially on the undertail coverts and the head is usually distinctly darker than the throat, creating a hooded effect which mimics the pattern of the male. Otherwise they look like big, fairly long-bodied buntings with an obvious white eye-ring, rather sandy-brown plumage, a striking pale wing panel and a rich chestnut coloured rump. The lack of white outer-tail feathers also separates them from most other buntings. It breeds in southeast Europe east to Iran. It is migratory, wintering in India. It is a rare but regular wanderer to western Europe. The call is a soft zrit, and the song is a jerky zrit. .zrit…zrit…srut..srut…srut.

Hello Bayram,
The singing pose, the POV, technical standard, composition and BG make this a superb portrait of a male Black-headed Bunting. If it had been singing on a natural perch instead of a cable it would have been perfect, but there again this is part of how we affect the environment.

Nice to see you back from your trip. Was it a success? I love singing birds and this Black-headed Bunting (a new bird to me) is wonderful. Perfect timing to get him with his beak wide open and head raised in song. A beautiful bird with wonderful colors - the yellow is magnificent. Fantastic details of his head, eye, wings and plumage. Superb clarity and composition.

Hello dear Bayram, what a joyful picture of a beautiful bird! Even though photographs are mute, I can hear its song. I love the pose of the bird, it's singing with all its body and intensity of life. I like animals for that, they don't inhibit their movements like human do. Thanks for the great post and notes!
