[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This shot is from Erzincan Province, which is one of 81 Turkish provinces.
Up to now, I posted photographs to TN from 23 Turkish provinces. This is 24th from Erzincan with traffic code 24 (only coincidence).

As for the species, it is Tadorna ferruginea (Pallas, 1764) – Angıt [TR], Ruddy Shelduck [EN].
The species name was came its reddish body color (ferrum means reddish color).
It is a middle sized species of the family Anatidae, between geese and ducks. It is included into the subfamily Tadorninae with type genus Tadorna Boie, 1822.
This genus consists of seven species all over the world. But it is represented by two species in Turkiye:
** T. tadorna (L., 1758) – Suna [TR], Common Shelduck [EN]
** T. ferruginea (Pallas, 1764) – Angıt [TR], Ruddy Shelduck [EN].

Last species has a loud wild honking calls. Males and females are similar each other and their love is famous.

The Çatalçam Gölü is a pond in northern side of Refahiye District. We observed several juvenile Gallinula chloropus, several Motacilla alba, two pairs T. ferruginea, two Tringa cf. glareola in September 14th, 2007. But Dr. Mustafa Sözen of our research group took some photographs of a pair of Crane, Grus grus in same area in mid-July 2007.

I dedicate to thank this shot to Professor Mehmet K. Atatür, who was my teacher in Ege University and famous herpetologist and a master photographer, for valubale comments. He is now early retired. But I still learn many thing from him. He is also new member of TN and I hope he will start to post some good photographs in short time.

The photo has noisy BG since taking under last light of sun before dusk. Another thing on BG, an empty plastic water bottle. Çatalçam Lake is very beautiful area among pine forest. It must be nicely protected.

Hi Ahmet,
Nice picture.
The color of the background and the one of the duck match nicely.
The composition is good, too.
The duck itself is in focus.

Well done
Tatjana

A nice in-flight shot of this bird. Great composition.
Best wishes,
Achim

Merhaba Ahmet,
Selam!!
The noisy bg is not that important but the subject itself has been captured well with clarity, natural colour and details, also the in flight front pose is perfect for viewing! It's still a great shot to me.
most import is the useful notes and information regarding this beautiful bird and facts!
thank you for sharing

Hi Ahmet,
A lovely capture of this not goose and duck :D. Nice composition and fine details. Inspite of noisy BG the subject standsout well and clear. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Excellent POV in your inflight Ahmet.
I like the color, exposure, DOF, and composition in this post also..
Well done and TFS!
Howard

great capture, TFS Ori

An excellent shot Ahmet (the one corrected for the water bottle is of course better) and I really appreciate your dedication. A small technicality, it would be better (and more correct) if you had given the exposure as: f/7.1 @ 1/3200. You gave the additional information in "more photo info" but the shortened version may mislead someone.
