The African/Common Stonechat is a species of the Old World flycatcher family (Muscicapidae), inhabiting sub-Saharan Africa and adjacent regions. Like the other chats, it was long addigned to the thrush family (Turdidae), to which the chats are convergent. Its scientific name refer to its appearance and habitat and means "collared rock-dweller".

The males have a black head, a white half-collar, a black back, a white rump, and a black tail; the wings are black with a large white patch on the top side of the inner wing. The upper breast is usually dark orange-red, with a sharp or gradual transition to white or pale orange on the lower breast and belly depending on subspecies. In a few, black replaces the orange breast feathers in part or entirely.

Females have brown rather than black above and on the head with an indistinct paler eyebrow line, chestnut-buff rather than orange below, and less white on the wings. Both sexes' plumage is somewhat duller and streakier outside the breeding season.

It has a scattered distribution across much of sub-Saharan Africa, occurring locally as far north as Senegal and Ethiopia. Outlying populations are found the mountains of southwest Arabia and on Madagascar and Grande Comore. It is non-migratory, moving only locally if at all. As a result, it has developed much regional variation, being divided into about 15 subspecies. I think this is belongs to subspecies armeniaca that sometimes known as S. maura armeniaca (Siberian Stonechat).

Merhaba Bayram Hocam,

Merhaba Bayram,

A lovely closeup of the Common Stonechat! The bird is so tender and possess so light and pure colors...simply adorable. The sharpness and POV are well-chosen with wonderful control on DOF. The bird seems to be well balanced on the dried branch....amazing! I like the blurred BG here.
Wonderful composition overall!

Have a nice weekend.

thanks and regards,

Hello Bayram

Wonderful shot with good colors and details, the composition is lovely, the pose of the bird is good and great sharpness of the details. Good lighting. It's a beautiful bird.
Well done

Hi Barea,

Another great bird shot of You. Composition and background blur is superb, but now I feel the whole image too bright - that's why I made my own workshop version with exposure corrections. Also the file size (47 KB) is too small. Fortunately, composition saves the image. And probably the mentioned little oe is a question of my personal taste, too.

I'm not sure You read my answer to Your last comment to me, but feel free to send any fungi images to identify, the more is the better. :) I'll try my best.

Have a nice WE, friendly regards, László

Hi LBB,

Quite an unusual position that you captured this Stonechat in. I'm not sure I have ever seen a bird standing erect on a branch before. A very pretty bird which reminds me of our Phoebe. Beautiful face and feathers, setting, background and composition.

Her açıdan mükemmel bir taşkuşu genci karesi olmuş Bayram hocam.
