Corvus monedula (Jackdaw, Eurasian Jackdaw) [in Turk. Küçük Karga] (Adult)

I encountered with plenty of Jackdaws in flocks around Sarıkamış while I was in trip to E Anatolia. I loved the silvery white eyes of adults.

TFL and Have a nice day!
Cheers,

The Jackdaw is spread all around Europe apart from the northern parts of Scandinavia. Moreover it can be also found in eastern parts of Asia including Turkey and northwestern parts of Africa. That is also the reason, why it is called the ``Eurasian``. It is 39 cm in length. It has got rather dark feathering. it is one of the smallest species in Corvus, the genus of crows and ravens. It is a black-plumaged bird with grey nape and distinctive white irises. The belly is silver as well but it has got dark markings. The wings, legs and feet are blackish too. Understandably the plumage depends on the region the birds live in. The young have darker feathering and blackish irises, while the adults have bluish (greyish- or silvery white) irises. Jackdaws are voluble birds. The call, frequently given in flight, is a metallic and somewhat squeaky, "chyak-chyak" or "kak-kak". Perched birds often chatter together, and before settling for the night large roosting flocks make a cackling noise. Jackdaws also have a hoarse, drawn-out alarm-call.

It is an omnivorous and opportunistic feeder, and eats a wide variety of plant material and invertebrates, as well as food waste from urban areas. They also eat insect found on the sheep’s back, besides they also steal their wool in order to line their nests. During winter it spend their time in large flocks. In agricultural areas it is also very often seen in the company of rooks, Corvus frugilegus. The Jackdaw has benefited from clearing of forested areas and is found in farmland and urban areas, as well as open wooded areas and coastal cliffs. In towns the nest can be found on buildings, chimneys and steeples. It is made of sticks. The hatching takes places after approximately three weeks, while the hens incubates the eggs alone. The eggs are bluish-green and the hen has from 3 to 8 eggs. The young are able to leave their nest after about five weeks.

Hello Bayram,
I mention this bird in my last upload. It's a kind of a plaque here. Sometimes there are hunderds of them together, whole year long. They steal the food of other birds and make a lot of noise.
But the photo is beautiful in great matching colours and very good sharpness. Great composition and POV.
Regards,
Peter
