i don't know such a fly like this one, these are sharp and crucial hunters! You know there are lots of flies around us, green and bottle flies, flesh flies, house flies and so on. Only this kind of fly hunts as i know. Maybe most closer one should be robber flies (as a fly look alike, not so much but still it's titled fly).

i don't know maybe you know another hunter flies and if you know i would like to know it too:-)

and i'm not sure identification of the prey, looks like a hover fly. After several shots i took, it took off with the prey easily and impressively.

Golden or Yellow Dung Flies - Scathophaga stercoraria

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Uniramia
Class: Pterygota – insects
Order: Diptera – true flies

World distribution: Northern hemisphere, widespread

The bright golden-yellow males of Scathophaga stercoraria (family Scathophagidae) are a familiar sight on cow-pats and on other dung in pastures. They are predators, taking smaller flies and other insects that visit the dung, but they also wait for the arrival of females that visit the dung more briefly to mate. Both males and females may mate multiple times and there is a substantial literature on the competition between males and on the factors that determine mating success. The females return to the dung to lay their eggs, the larvae being dung detritivores.

As a true fly it has just a single pair of wings, the hind wings having been modified into the tiny, drumstick-like halteres, which provide balance in flight.

infos from here! (But i have to warn you, there are some photos, i can not call them as a pleasant :-)

Hello Ersin,
I think this hunter is a robberfly. This scary scane is well caught, framed and composed.POV,lighting and clear details are also perfect.
TFS...:-)

Hello Ersin,
Very interesting documentary picture! The prey belongs to Syrphidae family while the predator to another family, but this is not a robber fly (Asilidae). I will try to send more inforrmation tomorrow :)
I also belive that this "predator" is not a real predator, as I can see the "prey" does not have head. Most probably (as for me) it was just "fresh dead fly", and the "predator" realy is a scavenger :)
Best greetings,
Radomir

Hi Ersin,
Buddy, atleast drop in a mail once in a while. I did not know that you are posting again :-). May be the job is keeping you away from posting :-(
