Montivipera albizona (Anatolian Diagonal Mountain Viper) (A portrait)

The maximum is a little less than 78 cm (for a male), although most specimens are smaller. The head is relatively large and distinct from the neck. The snout is rounded and covered with small, keeled scales. The color pattern consists of a grayish ground color. Running along the midline from the back of the head to the tail is a series of about 30 transversed and pronounced white- and black-edged narrow bands separated by a brick-red brown zone 3-4 scales long and 9-12 scales wide. Lateral spots may be small and in a double series. There are usually two large black, oblique spots on top of the head, as well as a dark stripe running from the corner of the eye back to the angle of the mouth or beyond. The belly is grayish and finely speckled with darker spots. This species is distributed along the Anatolian Diagonal between Kahramanmaras and Sivas provinces at high elavations (above 1000 m). Endemic species for Anatolia.
There are no information on its venom and effect, one of the most rare viper species among the known Anatolian snakes. Therefore, its biology is little known.
You can see a whole specimen in my another capture of the same species.
I attribute this photo my heartelt friend Annick Vanderschelden (vanderschelden) who an admirer of “snake eye”, as I am :).

Hello Bayram,
Well well...:-))
Thank you very much for the Viper.
Indeed the eye is definitely there and it has a very nasty look...
Not sure if I will keep it. Is there a manual enclosed?:-)
Serious...it is a wonderful image. Very beautiful animal. Definitely a close encounter. Excellent POV. I should say not only the eye is wonderful but its entire head is a little gem.
Further on it has great patterns.
Well done and thanks again!
Annick

Memo.

hocam elinize sağlık herpetoloji böyle çalışılır kanımca, bu fotolardan çekebilecek babayiğitler çeksinler de görelim...

Hi Bayram,
A nice dedication for the one of the most top class photographer I have seen Mr. Annick. A very good capture with excellent details and composition. I don't know if the wasp is poisonous but it has a property to paralyse the spiders so it might contain some thing like poison. It was very aggressive and tried to attack me but I dodged. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Merhaba Bayram,
A very good and effective close approach!
I like the way you managed to catch this pose and the eye contact.
Certainly the skin of this reptile is so beauty and well deserves this presentation.
What is the ground? It looks so shining.
Congratulations and thanks to post it.
My best regards,
JM

Hello Bayram,
A fine capture of this impressive rare Anatolian Viper, the details of the head being sharp and taken from a fine POV. I also liked seeing the workshop image showing the whole viper.
Well done my friend, and thanks for sharing this fine image,
Ivan

Halo Bayram,
Very nice portrait of this mountain viper, with great detail and perfect flash-assisted lighting, I'm sure Vanderschelden would love your dedication (a small detail, did you know that "snake eyes" means two ones in a dice game?).
Mehmet

He blends in well! Very nice job. Did you meet him in the wild or a zoo? Snakes scare me.
