Spalerosophis diadema cliffordi (Diadem Snake)

It is widely distributed throughout whol Saharan Africa, Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, SE Anatolia, Iraq east to S. Russia, Nepal, Pakistan and N. India. In Turkey, It has been recorded from Birecik, Sanliurfa and Kilis by us, at elavations 50-600 m.
It inhabits a wide range of stepe, semidesert habitats.
It can be reach a maximum total length of over 130 cm. The head clearly distinct from the neck, with moderately large eyes with a round pupil and golden iris.

The species is a rapid, terrestrial species; diurnal in cold periods of the year, nocturnal in the hot ones. Its food consists predominantly of small mammals and birds, lizards are also consumed, mainly by juveniles. Its fangs are very small, indistinct and at back of upper jaw (Opistoglyphous)and the toxicity of its venom is low, so not effective on humans and its preys. The prey is basicaly killed by strong body coils as seen in other Colubrid (-whip-) snakes.

I am not in TN gallery every day, but please be sure that I'll be in you gallery often :)

This is another great contribution to herpetofauna of Middle East. You are showing us creatures which are usually poorly known, and moreover, rarely observed in the wild (most reptiles prefer to do not be observed by human :>). Great details and sharpness, and the POV allow to see mosaic of colours on this snake's body. Great work!

Very good composition executed sharply in-focus under ideal lighting conditions Bayram, today, you are providing us with one of the "more handsome" snake species inhabiting our country. There is no trace of our "woodwork" within the frame, but those traditional mosses are abundantly in evidence below the snake! Good job man!
