[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hi my friends,
For last two weeks, I couldn't visit TN and your post. I was busy with my field works and academic facilities. Sorry for my silence.

In last weekend, I visited Gaziantep and Ş.Urfa provinces in Southern Turkiye, neighbours of Syria.
My closed friend Dr. Hüseyin Meşe (efsus) and me saw many birds along Fırat [Eurprates] River and some other place near Nizip and Gaziantep center.

Of these, Geronticus eremita - Kelaynak [TR], Northern Bald Ibis, Hermit Ibis, or Waldrapp [EN] is one of nature protection symbols in Turkiye. It is endangered species and under protection. So, all individuals marked by rings.
Yesterday, I saw their young in nests on rocks in cliffs. At the end of summer, they will go to Africa for winter perod. But they cant arrive to Africa in recent years.
The species is a member of the family THRESKIORNITHIDAE (CICONIIFORMES), represented by three species in Turkiye. Other two species:
......- Plegadis falcinellus - Çeltikçi [TR], Glossy Ibis [EN] (photo I, II),
......- Platalea leucorodia - Kaşıkçı [TR], Spoonbill [EN].

As for its name's etimology, namely derivatio nominis; geront means "aged", "old" (gerontology, geriatry comes from same origin) after appearance head section of the ibis.
eremita is related with its habitat, meaning "desert" (eremias).

My special thanks to Hüseyin Meşe (efsus) for hospitality and good friendship.

Dostum Ahmet,

Hi Ahmet,

I was wondering about your absence - so glad to see you back. You return with a bautiful image of this Ibi in flight. He stands out amazingly well from the dark background. The deep rich colors are magnificent. Fine details of the head, beak, eye and feathers. A beautiful composition and a fine image.

Merhaba Ahmet Dostum,
Wonderful to see such a fine in-flight capture of Geronticus eremita, a rare species that I would like to photograph myself, but that is unlikely. Instead a consolation is this superb capture taken to show the features and iridescent blue of the wings with fine sharpness.
Tebrikler ve cok tesekkür ederim.
Eline saglik,
Ivan

Hello Ahmet,
It seems I arrived back here just in time to see this fantastic capture of yours! I never knew the colours of the plumage of this Ibis were so beautiful! You've managed to capture it in perfect lighting and it looks very sharp against the dark background. Brilliant work.
Many thanks and all the best wishes, Ulla

very impressive shot,Ahmet!
firstly quality in this shot difficult management of light and movement, and the secondly the strangeness of this bird that I see for the first time and is very strange

compliments sERGIO

Believe me or not ut I saw some (7-10) specimens of this species in Morocco 2 weeks ago! :> Great capture, very mobile and so sharp!
Wonderful presentation :) And also an interesting data about distribution of this species in Turkey (who knows, maybe in August I will see Turkish population of this interesting bird) :)
All the best from Lodz,
