Sympecma Fusca (Damselfly)
 |

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Taken yesterday on my trip to North-western part of Istanbul where there are tens of lakes. This was taken on a shore of one of the lakes and although it looks like a damselfly I am not that sure about the ID.
They were getting spooked easily, ao I had some hard time photographying them. There was no chance for a tripod or a macro rig so I had to shoot hand held. This is either 1:1 or pretty close to 1:1 and I didn't want to crop it.
I thought I had the whole body in focus but I can see that the body was not parallel to the film plane. That creature kept on getting spooked and I couldn't risk moving or make anymore adjustments while being about 6cms away. Ohh well next time :)
Take care,
Ahmet
Update: The ID is Sympecma Fusca. Thanks to cicindela |

Hi Ahmet, This is a very well composed shot of a damsel. The body seems to be quite out of OOF. But I guess that is due to the lens more than anything else. My Sigma f2.8 seems to do the same thing, give me a STRIP of focus, not a overall one. The reason not apparent. At 60mm, I guess only very CLOSE Macros(Or Micro in Nikon terms :-)) works.
But good work here. Composition is great.BG good.
Warm regards, K

Hi Ahmet,
That is quite a proportionate content you got there. They both have very similar sizes and the posture of the fly in an angled fashion gives it a very noticeable touch.
TFS & Cheers
Hi Ahmet,
Greatly capturing this tiny guy.
Nice DoF, well focused, sharp and neat.

Hi Ahmet.
like your perfect close-up shot. You are correct. The DOF is a bit shallow. However, other component of the shot and photography are great. Composition is excellent. BG is simply outstanding. Lighting and colour levels are great too. Twig and insect are detailed very well. Perfect done and TFS.
Alexei.
