Gallipoli - Turkey.

The Syrian Woodpecker looks so similar to the Great Spotted Woodpecker that one wonders whether the two can successfully co-exist. Plumage wise. the only obvious difference between them is that the Syrian has a continuous broad white line from the eye to the shoulder; in a Great Spotted this white area is split in two by a black line which connects the moustache to the nape. The undertail coverts of the Syrian Woodpecker are also duller and pinker than the shocking red on a Great Spotted.

Breeds and winters in woodland, parks, orchards and copses, often close to habitation.

Very common in parts of Greece and Turkey and spreading through the rest of south-east Europe. It's preference for gardens and orchards mean it is easily found in the villages around Lake Neusiedl, Austria.

130-250,000 breeding pairs across south-eastern

Excellent composition with the branches and buds in and around the bird. Nice angles. The BG is a bit strange though. There are some double images which distract a bit from the Woodpecker which could be slightly sharper.

Dear Alptekin this is a female syrian woodpacker (dendrocopus syriacus), if it was a white-backed we had to see the black strikings on her chest. I know it is hard to capture a good shot of this littles but you've done a good job. TFS.

Uzun emeklerle fotoğraflanan bu karenin değeri daha büyük olmalı.Tekrar tebrikler..
