Lasiommata megera (Wall Brown) -Family: Satyridae

Dear Friends, I would like to dedicate the two captures (one of them in WS) of a beautifull “Wall Brown” -which is disstributed in Europe and west Asia, from England to Anatolia and Iran- to one of my beloved and heartfelt friends in TN, Silvio Sorcini (Silvio2006) who is an admirer of butterflies and also an expert on photographing them. Also thanks for ID to Silvio. I hope you will like this!
I wish you all the best my beloved friend Silvio!

Note: Our friend Ivan stated that this butterfly ID as "Lasiommata maera", the Large Wall Brown. Thanks for correction my friend!

A widespread species employing a large variety of habitats. There are a number of generations a year and they therefore can be seen in any of the warm months. The wall brown is a widespread butterfly but populations have declined in recent decades. It inhabits rough grassland, downland slopes, disused railway lines, field edges and sunny paths and can often be seen basking on the ground. The upperside is brown with orange markings and bold black eye-spots. Males have a band of scent scales crossing the forewings. The underwing resembles the upperwing but the hind wing is a mottled grey colour with prominent eye-spots. Eggs are laid singly amongst grass. The caterpillars are green and feed mainly at night.

The caterpillars eat grasses including cock's-foot (Dactylis glomerata), and wavy hair-grass (Deschampsia flexuosa), however the adults generally prefer nectar including bramble (Rubus frutcosus) and valerian (Valeriana officinalis). Dragonflies and damselflies are predators of this beautifull butterfly.

Ps. I photographed this beautifull butterfly during the previous trip to SE Anatolia in Yılankale (Ceyhan), Adana province.

Hi Bayram,
A lovely capture of this beautiful wall brown butterfly. Excellent sharp details and a splendid composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hello Bayram,
Welcome back from Cyprus!
This is an excellent capture of a Wall Brown, the POV and sharpness clearly showing the characteristics of Lasiommata maera, the Large Wall Brown.
Even though Silvio is wrong about this ID, it is nice to dedicate this image to him, one of the most prolific nature photographers on TN.
Thanks for sharing this one my friend,
Best wishes, Ivan

Hi Bayram, most excellent capture, your details and focus is first class. great composition. regards h

Ciao Bayram,

Merhaba Hocam,

Very nice macro, very nice butterfly.
Great sharpness and very well composed photo, the luminosity
and colors are fantastic.. Well done

Everton

Very good color, exposure, and nice details here Bayram.
Not sure about the composition though, too much space behind the b-fly IMHO. Nice WS view also.
Well done,
Howard

What a lovely shot, Bro.You're so sweet to have dedicated this beautiful shot to Sivio, and I also saw his dedication to you.
I love the perfect colours of this shot. Very well done.
