Merhaba Dostlarim,
This time I'm posting something on which I know almost nothing, except that it is part of the beautiful nature all around us, has a fine form, and to me, looks really good on a black background. And yes, I'm sure our mutual friend, Fatih Izler, would also find this "thing" quite lovely since it belongs to nature, that is why I would like to dedicate this "strange creature" to him.
This thing suspiciously looks like a form of a hard coral from a distance, but a close study readily proves otherwise. When I dissolved a small tip in a weak acid solution I could observe some cells very much like those of some algae under a microscope. So I tentatively think that it might be some kind of a calcareous algae, any help on the ID of this fine looking, but still "strange" aggregation would be greatly appreciated.
The specimen was collected from a 2 m deep rocky bottom from a small bay 600 ms from the Azmak Beach, Ovacik, Cesme/izmir, my first impression was, either a coral or a bryozoon colony, wrong on both unfortunately!
The macrophotograph was taken under unilateral daylight, open-shade conditions, and a contra-placed white cardboard passive reflector on the left, over a black BG.

Grazie e complimenti. Ciao Maurizio

Hi Mehmet, this coral is quite beautiful, the details are excellent, contrast with the backdrop is also excellent. A wonderful and informative image. TFS regards h

Hi Mehmet.

Wish I could help you with the identification but my friend I'm afraid I can't, except to say you have to love nature when it can produce things so beautiful as this, wonderful detail, just amazing, and you right it looks outstanding on a black background lovely work as always, have a great weekend.

Cheers Rick :)

Hi Mehmet,
Wow! While looking at this picture, I was mystified by your unusual subject and most of all by this technique you used to get such result! I'm very happy to have learned many things from this amazing post. Thanks a lot for sharing this great capture and so interesting explanations.

Hi Mehmet,

This is both fascinating and beautiful. The underwater world is a wonderful source of nature at its best. Beautiful photograph with fine details. The black background shows this off very effectively.

Jane

Merhaba Mehmet,
Selam!!
This is also my first encounter of the beautiful creature!
You had captured well with the best exposure and focus in it with good sharpness, colour and details
many thanks for the sharing and a nice dedication too
greeting
from NZ, Tony

You have brought back some pleasing memories...My father had one of these and it was very large but with imperfections. Yours looks very clean and as always well presented with notations...With a PhD I would expect none the less! Tres bon!
Bob

Hi Mehmet,

I can't help you, this is also my first encounter of the beautiful creature.
Sharpnesss and details are very good for determination.
Good technik to make this picture.

Hi Mehmet,
Wonderful shot of this strange creature and it's shape looks so interesting. Looks like a coral but as you say, it is not. Very neat and sharp image. The black BG works well here in highlighting it and your skillful use of flash brings out the minute details perfectly. Excellent POV and composition. Kudos.

Hello Mehmet,
Technically first class presentation of a fascinating and mysterious subject. The bifurcate growth pattern suggest an algal marine plant, if so the calcarious skeleton of it! But that too is strange: do algae metabolise calcium carbonate in this way and if so why? This is certainly beautiful as well as mysterious. I hope someone can provide an answer!
Best wishes, Ivan

Hello Mehmet,

Sharp and crisp with looooooaaaads of detail.
Superb close crop.
Very fine work, Mehmet!

Mehmet hocam merhaba,
Gerçekten ilginç bir yaratıkmış. Fotoğraf da her zamanki gibi oldukça güzel. Elinize sağlık. Selamlar

Hi Mehmet,
Sorry, I also don't know what it is. But looks very good to my eyes. Good composition and sharp details. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Very strange indeed Mehmet. I like the texture here. looks like the vein of the human brain. Thanks for sharing and best regards. Jusni

Whatever it is, but it is extremely beautiful in form and structure, Mehmet.
The credit also goes to your professional capture of this organism in controlled conditions.
I am totally unaware of such beautiful creations of nature existing in the sea.
Thanks for bringing to light this wonderful specimen and I do hope someone on TN may be able to throw further light on it.
Regards.

Hello Mehmet;

Another new beauty of marine engineering, because that would be necessary to call it. Hard man can play a structure of the coma esstos marine fossils, you just play with your camera for the nestro delleite so we can appreciate the wise and sometimes it is twisted nature.
Thanks again for your work, passes thicken my dossier in which archive all your photos.
A very strong hug my friend
