Maniola telmessia (Turkish Meadow Brown) [in Turk. Türk Çayır Esmeri]

Today I would like to dedicate this captures of this beautiful “female” Turkish Meadow Brown to one of my beloved and heartfelt friends in TN, Ivan Kruys (Argus) who is an expert on butterflies and photographing them to thanks to him for his valuable contributions to TN and his kindly correction to me on this species ID which I uploaded a capture before on its ambushing (a “male” one) by a crab spider. I hope you can like this Ivan :)! I wish you all the best my friend and thanks once more for that correction!

Hoping that you like this shot!

Cheers,

Bayram

*****************************

Brown Butterflies (Satyridae) is a large family of predominantly Brown butterflies characterised by prominent eye-spots (ocelli) near wing margins. The spots lure bird attacks away from the head to the less vulnerablewing-tips. Several veins are distinctly swollen near base. Sexes similar, but females often larger and somewhat paler: males often dark patch of scent scales – the scent is important in courtship- in middle of forewing. Front legs much reduced and brush-like in both sexes. Larvae all feed on grasses and are generally gren or Brown: 2 prongs at hind end. Pupae either hang upside down like Nymphalidae or lie in flimsy cocoon in the turf.

Turkish Meadow Brown is mainly found in Turkey (W, S & SE Anatolia). However it is also recorded from a few Greek islands, such as Samos, Lesvos & Karpathos. The name of the species is came after the antic name of Fethiye, i.e. “Telmessos”. Males are smaller than the females and their underside hindwing has prominent eye spots. Its larvae feed on grasses (such as Agrostis and Alopecurus).

Bayram merhaba,

Mehmet

Hocam bu kadar olur. Sanki 3 boyutlu çekim yapmışsınız. Detaylar mükemmel. Elinize sağlık.

Hi Bayram,
Outstanding shot of this beautiful Turkish Meadow Brown with such lovely colours and details on its wings. A classic pose captured with perfect lighting and exposure. A precise DOF and a well chosen parallel POV to portray it. Very nicely composed. Kudos.
TFS.

Hello Bayram,

A great presentation of this butterfly. Perfect sharpness. The colours are very well reproduced. The flower is perhaps a little bit overexposed, but it is always the difficulty with white flowers.
Cheers,
Mariki

Hi Bayram,

Ivan has to love this dedication to him. He is not only and expert on butterflies - he has also identified many birds for me. You captured this beautiful Meadow Brown perfectly. I love the pose on the flower showing both sides of the wings. Excellent colors and details of the entire butterfly. Background is wonderful too.

hacı, artık hızına yetişemiyoruz. hergün birbirinden güzel çekimler. eline sağlık, bu da çok çok güzel olmuş. renkler, netlik hepsi çok güzel. selamlar.

Hi Bayram, again,

expertly done, this sideways portrait of a butterfly species I've never seen before. You let the light com from the side which makes all veins and scales stand out, great! Perfect, your dedication to Argus who inspires us all.

Any white flower is a bother, here it turned out somewhat overexposed. I had a series on the "damned white flowers" problem. One way around is to expose for the flower, underexpose for the animal, then correct the picture in PS. There are other solutions, none perfect. I'm sure you tried with "Shadow/Highlight" in PS, but this helps only for small increments.

Thanks again for the detailed note, carefully written as usual with our friend Bayram!

Best regards
Dietrich

Hallo Bayram
A lovely and most deserved dedication. A most enjoyable sight. The soft looking colours the butterfly is just stunning. The surface of the wings looks very soft and in a way fluffly. Good focus and sharp details, especially with the butterfly nearly filling the entire frame. A sunny and bright photo, with lots of details to appreciate, and very pleasing to the eye. It is actually difficult to describe the beauty of this butterfly. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your weekend.
Kind regards
Anna
It is really a pleasure going through your wonderful gallery.

Merhaba Bayram Bey,

Superb, Bayram!
I love the photo and the dedication!
Many thanks!
The technical quality is perfect! The compostion and BG excellent and the POV shows as much of the underside of the wings as one could wish for of a shot of M. telmessia.
This is an obvious image for my favorites and I thank you for that my friend!
Best wishes, Ivan

Excellent colourful picture of this butterfly. Excellent POV and framing. Very good sharpness. Great colours. Kind regards... Cypturk
