[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
As you know, summer is very good time. All living things appear and breed. We hear birds' songs and we see their young. But it is not a good time for office works. Most of my time also is spent out of office and I must go to field study as a zoologist and academican. So, I have not enough time for TN. My special thanks to all friends, who wrote critiques and visited my posts.
In last week, I visited to investigate some dragonfly (Odonata) species in some places in Niğde and its neighbour provinces: Adana, Mersin and Aksaray. Actually I am a batman and not an odonatologist:) My purpose to help to odonatologist Gert Jan van Pelt, my friend, from the Netherlands. When we looked for some species, I also took many photographs of various groups: from butterflies to birds. But I will post them later. Today I continue to post for my previous Denizli-Muğla trip seri.
This is Dendrocopos medius (Linnaeus, 1758) - Ortanca Agackakan [TR], Middle Spotted Woodpecker [EN] from Honaz Dağı [Mountain] National Park (Denizli). The hole was used by Sitta krueperi Pelzeln, 1863 – Anadolu Sıvacısı, Küçük Sıvacıkuşu [TR], Krüper's Nuthatch [EN]. Nest of the woodpecker was located almost 1 metre above on same tree. Probably hole which used by the nuthatches was open by the woodpecker. But now it belonged to another species. When the woodpecker roosted near tree hole on the photograph, the fight between woodpecker and nuthatch started and they captured each other with their bills. I also observed that nuthatches made same thing with domestic sparrow. You can see Krüper's Nuthatch which nesting in the hole on my previous post.

Hi Ahmet,

I haven't seen a woodpecker in months. They must leave the desert for the summer. It is so nice to see this beautiful one in a perfect pose giving such a good view of the face. Beautiful colors - his red head is wonderful. Fine details of the face and plummage. I keep expecting to see a little head peep out of the hole.

I always enjoy seeing new species! This is a very fine capture of the Middle-spotted Woodpecker by its nest hole. I like the POV and details are very good. Beautiful colours too and well composed. Well done!

I like the shot so much. First I try to take similar shots more than two year. The result is null. Second, you managed to create an amazing picture and I am very glad for you. An excellent portrait of D. medius, the pose, POV, sharpness and lighting being first class. I have photographed the Middle-spotted Woodpecker in Lesbos, but that was through my telescope and it is nothing as good as this. However, like this, a dead Poplar tree trunk was used.
