Dendrocopus medius (Tr. Ortanca ağaçkakan, En. Middle Spotted Woodpecker)
This species has a large range, with an estimated global Extent of Occurrence of 1,000,000-10,000,000 km². It has a large global population, including an estimated 310,000-710,000 individuals in Europe (BirdLife International in prep.). Global population trends have not been quantified, but the species is not believed to approach the thresholds for the population decline criterion of the IUCN Red List (i.e. declining more than 30% in ten years or three generations). For these reasons, the species is evaluated as Least Concern (from: birdlife.org)

There are 5 Denrdocopus species in Türkiye:
* D. leucotus
* D. major
* D. medius
* D. minor, and
* D. syriacus

In Turkey D. medius mostly found in Marmara, Eagean and Mediterranean areas as resident.

This time I want to dedicate thi photo one of our new TN friends Sernur Bağcı "alliturnam". Se has a different but atractive styl and has very nice photos.

Hayalini kurduğum ama bir türlü tatmin edici bir karesini çekemediğim bu kuşun inanılmaz bir portresi bu. Çok enfes olmuş. Tebrik ediyorum.
