These interesting rock formations known as the "Three Beautiful Ladies" or "The Family" are found at an altitude of 1800m near the town of Urgup, Cappadocia in Turkey.

They were formed as the result of the erosion of volcanic ash called the tufa layer, sculpted by wind and flood water they formed these unique formations.

Fantastic rock formations Stephen. Cappadocia must be great place to travel with cam. As always perfect DOF - from little yellow flowers on FG to fascinating clouds patterns high in the sky. Great post!

Very nice composition, great exposure and nice colours.
Well done.

Stephen, no matter where you are, you always find a great picture.

You show us that any place may be beautiful - we "just" have to know how to look at them.

Once more, excellent colors and composition.

Hi Stephen. Another fine image from this region. Such images really are enhanced by the lack of man and man-related components . . . but for one thing . . . it is difficult in such an image as this to accurately gauge scale. I'd even settle for a height given in the Notes :)
regards,
Sheldon (shel)

I have seen something very similar in some places of spain but not with volcanic origin, but due to material stratification before erosion took place.
Here I make an idea of the big they are with the small trees at the base. As always, a plaesure to look at your pics.
