Hi friends,
Been a long time since my last upload, hope all is well with you :o)
This is one of the herons I like a lot. I named this "pinsharp" because of the sharp and lovely form of the bill.

Purple Heron

*The Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea) is a wading bird in the heron family Ardeidae, breeding in Africa, central and southern Europe, and southern and eastern Asia. The European populations are migratory, wintering in tropical Africa; the more northerly Asian populations also migrate further south within Asia. It is a rare but regular wanderer north of its breeding range.

The Purple Heron is a large bird, 80-90 cm tall, with a 120-150 cm wingspan, but slender for its size, weighing only 0.5-1.3 kg. It is somewhat smaller than the Grey Heron, from which it can be distinguishes by its darker reddish-brown plumage, and, in adults, darker grey back. It has a narrower yellow bill, which is brighter in breeding adults.

The Purple Heron breeds in colonies in reed beds or trees close to large lakes or other extensive wetlands. It builds a bulky stick nest.

It feeds in shallow water, spearing fish, frogs or insects with its long, sharp bill. It will often wait motionless for prey, or slowly stalk its victim. It tends to keep within reedbeds more than the Grey Heron, and is often inconspicuous, despite its size.

It has a slow flight, with its neck retracted. This is characteristic of herons and bitterns, and distinguishes them from storks, cranes and spoonbills, which extend their necks. The long neck of Purple Heron looks particularly snake-like, with more of an S-shape in flight. The call is a loud croaking "krek".

The Purple Heron is one of the species to which the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) applies.

Hi Selen. Its good to see you posting i hope all is well with you.This is a first class inflight shot of the Purple Heron . Which you have taken with fine detail anf sharp focusing. It has some nics colours and markings. well done TFS.

A supern, pin-sharp, capture of a Purple Heron in flight. I like the frozen upward beat of the wings and the lighting is great against the simple sky BG.

How well that you restart to post your wonderful shots. This is amazing. You managed to catch fine bird at so attractive pose. Wingspread is brilliant, shapes of the bird are very expressive and your POV and terrific. It’s about time :) and its so good to see you back posting its been way to lonnngggg, excellent in-flight shot of this stunning Heron.

Those colours are amazing, superb frozen action revealing excellent detail in the plumage, and the wonderful light just adds to this beautiful image.

This is one of the herons that I like, but not very often seen. Good captured in flight this bird, showing the colors of the wings. Well done!

After quite a long break you've come back with a beautiful flier on the wing Selen, the natural grace of the flying heron was finely enhanced by the neutral-grey BG and that sigmoid curve of the long neck added some dynamism to an already eye pleasing capture. Thanks also for the detailed notes my friend.
