Hi friends. Like my previous post, these beautiful Turkish snails were captured at the ancient ruins of Priene in southwestern Turkey. I was there on a field trip with our good TN friend Bayram (boreocypriensis) and he has posted both these species back in February.

These ruins had many invertebrates that were found as we moved a few broken fragments of an ancient Greek column.

The top snail is a Lentil-shaped Terrestrial Snail (Caracollina [Helix] lenticula). This terrestrial species (family Hygromiidae, Gastropoda) is one of the smallest snail species (3-4 x 7-9 mm), is occasionally found in pits and graves; it prefers sheltered places and is often found among human habitation. It is distributed in Western Mediterranean region to central Atlantic islands (Cabo Verde), introduced to the eastern Mediterranean.
The bottom snail is a Saharan Land Snail (Rumina saharica). This land snail species (family Subulinidae, Gastropoda) is small to medium-sized (20-35 x 7-9 mm), and almost cylindrical in shape. It is native to countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea and that has been widely introduced in many other areas. The species presents a high degree of shell and colour polymorphism.

Hi Chris MF,

I'm glad to see You again, You were missed. If You aren't here, who teaches the lovely Australian fungi to me? :) Anyway, I hope You had great time in Turkey with our common Friend Bayram.

Although the object isn't a fungus here, both are very good macro captures with great sharpness and details. Some little oof parts, too, but they were unavoidable. Very fine pics overall, most of all the upper one. Congrats and tfs this nice double shot.

Best regards from Hungary, László

Hello Chris,
This is a very fine presentation of these two very different snails - I love the 'lentil-shaped' one that is most unusual! Excellent views of both, sharp details and very nice compositions. An interesting note too!
TFS and kind regards, Ulla
