Chapman's Blue (CB) is a medium-sized butterfly with a wingspan of 16-30 mm.

CB is very similar to Common blue, P. icarus but usually slightly smaller and it lacks the black cell spot found on the underside forewing of icarus. The male upperside is bright blue with a violet tinge, and there is a narrow, but strong and even, black border on both wings. The underside is very similar to icarus although the key identifier is the absence of a forewing cell spot (basal) which icarus nearly always has, even if sometimes very small. It is not always easy to see this as it is near the base of the wing, especially if the forewing is tucked down and the cell spot (or lack of it) is not visible. The hindwing underside marginal orange lunules tend to be brighter and more elongated with pointed ends, and the black “dashes” inside the white marginal areas tend to be more centrally located within these white areas, compared to icarus where they are usually close the orange, if not actually touching it. The underside ground colour is pale brown in the female and greyish in the first brood males, although second brood males seem usually to have a brownish ground colour.

It is found in Morocco, S. Europe, Turkey, Middle East, Iran, Caucasus, South Urals and Tian Shan. The adult butterflies start to emerge in April and are on the wing until the end of August in two generation (bivoltine: April-June and mid June-August). In Turkey, it is reported that show three generations (trivoltine) depending on local conditions (especially in high elevations) and flies to the end of September.

The larval host-plants are various species of Onobrychis species. Eggs laid on leaves. Larvae feeds on leaf cuticules, leaving major veins intact. In drier habitats, aestivation as an ovum or undeveloped larva is possibly required pending germination of larval-host plant seeds arising from spring flowering. Eggs of the second brood are laid on dried grass stems, in total absence of Larval-host plant. Hibernates as small larva. Larvae attended by some ant species (such as Lasius, Myrmica and Tapinoma species). CB observed in warm dry, rocky, bushy places; grassy clearings in schrublabd; meadows and neglected cultivated areas from the sea level to 1500 m.
