During our trip along the Black Sea around Kurucaşile (Bartın province) we encountered an amazing natural event that I captured some shots excitedly! The day was very hot and the moisture also was very high. I could count at least 7 waterspouts at the same moment (Please see attached “WS” too see another more detailed one).

A Waterspout is a small-diameter column of rapidly swirling air in contact with a water surface. Waterspouts are almost always produced by a swiftly growing cumulus cloud. They may assume many shapes and often occur in a series, called a “waterspout family” (see attached WS), produced by the same upward-moving air current. Waterspouts are closely related to other atmospheric phenomena such as tornadoes, whirlwinds, and fire storms. Waterspouts are similar to tornadoes, but they form in a different manner. Generally, waterspouts are given the honor of being called a "tornado over water". But waterspouts are not truly given the name of a real tornado until they reach land. Water spouts can start as tornadoes over land. If they move over a body of water, they are classified as tornadic. This type of waterspout can be fairly destructive.

The second type of waterspout is formed over water initially due to warm temperatures in the lower atmosphere along with high humidity. Fair weather waterspouts are generally not as dangerous and are more common than tornadic waterspouts.

TFL and have a nice new week!

Hello MF Bayram,
I think that it is a very original one! This is something that I have never seen. This is dramatic indeed and much impressive.
Best regards Siggi

Hello Bayram,

A fascinating image! I am also interested in severe weather, so this is of a lot of interest to me. You've captured an excellent image of this weather event. Don't get too close, they can be dangerous!

These occur here too on Lake Michigan, particularly in autumn when temperatures start cooling off while the lake is still warm from summer temperatures. Since we've had a very warm summer, I anticipate that we could be seeing these within a month or so.

Merhaba Bayram dostum,
What a shot!
Superbly captured waterspout over the Black Sea. The composition is just right and it contrasts nicely against the early evening sky with the land being a nice foregraound that givs the shot perspective.
Well done MF and thanks for fascinating us with this unusual shot and excellent note.
I think there will be more of these with climatic change!
Have a good week,
Ivan

Hello little bro Bayram,

what a surprise and your lucky one.
Good seeing and on time to get this shot with great pov and fine colours.

Gert

Hi Bayram,
you get around a lot of places this year! With this waterspout at the Black sea you were really lucky, the bright background makes for a dramatic and rare scenery. But then, you are of course always ready when something unexpected pops up in nature! :o) What I like is that you give a detailed description and explanation of the phenomenon, this makes it a really top contribution to TN.
Bewst regards
Dietrich

Selamlar Hocam.

Mehmet

Hello Bayram,
What a neat capture you post today. I have seen very small ones over the years, but this one looks like a miniature tornado. I have heard that they can cause extensive damage, especially when they reach the shore line.
Great timing and shown in a nice vertical composition. Glad you had your camera handy in order to get this amazing image.
Love your WS images as well!!
