[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The unique shape should be enough to identify a pratincole but notice too that they are mostly brown above but with a neat white rump and from below they look mostly dark but with a pale body. They are a warmer brown in colour than Black-winged Pratincoles and have a white trailing edge to the wing and diagnostic copper colouring in the underwing.
Breeds close to wetland areas such as river deltas, lakes and marshes, nesting colonially in dried-out areas.
Specific sites where these birds can be seen well include La Tancada on the Ebro Delta (Spain), the tracks leading to Lucio Cerrado Garrido on the Coto Donana (Spain), Istria (Romania) and Gulluk Marshes (Turkey). They can also be found on the Camargue (France) and the Hortobagy (Hungary) but the sites here are less predictable.

Between 5,600 and 6,600 pairs breed within Europe, mostly in Spain
