[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
These ants are very common in west and south coasts of Turkey. They are quiet huge compared to regular ants we see everywhere. They live on the sandy beaches. (at least I only see them at the beaches) They are red, except the bottom part is black and move around very fast. It was very difficult to shoot this macro shot. If anybody knows the name, I can provide more info later. Cheers!

Ciao Alp,
belli i dettagli in questa fotografia, buona la composizione, bravo!
Grazie.
Franco

excellent shot..and quite dramatic...full of the menace of the closeness and the simplicity of the ant body parts.
the rock greatly helps with its tactile surface and tonality
cheers

ANTS:
Classification
Kingdom Animalia (Animals)
Phylum Arthropoda (Arthropods)
Superclass Hexapoda (Hexapods)
Class Insecta (Insects)
Subclass Pterygota
Order Hymenoptera (Ants, Bees, Wasps and Sawflies)
Suborder Apocrita (Ants, Bees and Wasps)
Superfamily Formicoidea (Ants)
Family Formicidae (Ants)
Numbers
11 subfamilies, 297 gener and do nota, and about 8800 species worldwide (580 nearctic)
Size
1-25mm
Identification
Ants have slender pedicel ("waist"), which are typical in suborder Apocrita, but ants can be distinguished from wasps by their elbowed antennae. These small insects are usually black, brown, or reddish, and they live in colonies with well-defined castes that typically comprise a worker caste of sterile females and a reproductive caste of winged males and females.
Habitat
Ants generally live underground or in dead wood, but exact habitat may vary with genus and species.
Food
Food depends on particular genus and/or species. Many ants are predators or scavengers while others "milk" aphids and other insects for their sweet secretions or cultivate fungus on cut leaves.
Remarks
All living ant species are eusocial.
Family Formicidae – Ants

Bonita y sencilla imagen, donde la sombra duplica al insecto creando un efecto geométrico. Un saludo, Juan Luis.

Hi Alp,
A very good pic of a difficult subjec to photograph. I like the colours of insect and ground. Good details
