[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This Eurasian Hoopoe was running around on the grass by hotel. It spent most of its time head down probing the earth for grubs. There where a number of other types of bird doing the same thing, however the Eurasian Hoopoe was by far the most successful.

I put the success down to its beak being longer than the other birds, offering more depth and hence more chances. Once the bird got the grub it would be at the tip of its beak. So with a quick flick back of its head, the grub would be launched into the air and the Hoopoe would catch it in its throat and swallow.

The crest at the top of its head is shown down, but when spooked by other birds or simply stimulated to do so, it is raised and looks very impressive.

Hi Paul ! This hoopoe is very beautiful ! I love the light brown colors color of his body, with black and white markings on the wings. Excellent details, beautiful pose of the bird, with beak open, natural colors, good POV and composition. Very well done !

Wonderful shot! I only saw one once in India and had no idea what it was. Wish I could have gotten a picture just half as good as this one.
