Ring-bill Gull
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
“Ring-bill Gull” is the name of this photo taken in Bowring Park today. This small gull resembles a herring gull but is more delicate in stature with characteristic bright yellow legs and a clear black band on its yellow bill. It is lighter and more graceful in flight than the larger gulls and is aptly named the Pond Gull for its habit of frequenting freshwater ponds during nesting season. In Newfoundland, it seems to prefer the coastal habitat. Parking lots of fast- food restaurants and city duck ponds appear to have a certain attraction for these birds.
Many, if not most, Ring-billed Gulls return to breed at the colony where they hatched. Once they have bred, they are likely to return to the same breeding spot each year, often nesting within a few meters of the last year's nest site. Many individuals return to the same wintering sites each winter too. |

Hello Jim,
Very good capture of this “Ring-bill Gull” with another gull in the background in landing sequence. Great POV. I wish you could accomodate the Right wing too. TFS.
