[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This was the second winter this Wood-Duck spent in Wabukayne Park. He came two years ago together with one female but she disappeared after a while. Now his mate is a female Mallard witch he defends bravely against his numerous rivals.

Wood Duck
Aix sponsa Order ANSERIFORMES - Family ANATIDAE - Subfamily Anatinae
A colorful duck of wooded swamps and streamsides, the Wood Duck is one of only a few North American ducks that nest in trees. Many people consider it to be the most beautiful of all waterfowl.

Hi Mario,
it is interesting to me about your note of how a wood duck defends it's mate but I too have seen this very same thing even though the species are not related. The photo is very beautiful and the wood duck male is probably one of the most attractive ducks outside of mandarins.I think he is even more attractive than a mandarin. The colours sing in this capture and your focus is very clear giving nice details as a result of your well controlled exposure.I like wood ducks but they are very uncommon here in Alberta so I do not get to see them all that often.A fine photo you have uploaded today and I thank you for having done so.Bob
