Not much more to say about the hopper. It's common everywhere, of different sizes and names. Farmers fear the Locusts which eat their crop. Locusts are much larger then the hoppers.

Post pro, Rezise for web, slight smart sharpen, slight noise reduction, slight levels adjustment. This is my usual method, not heck of alot. Blurring of background is done from the lens, not photoshop. I use CS2 for "Developing an image." I don't use post pro to correct an image, the image is dumped.
For graphics etc. or artsy fartsy, then yes, of course CS2 is fun to play with on an image.

For Trek N. it's "Au Naturelle" ;) :)
After using none "L" lenses and "L" lenses from Canon, I find there is very little need of post pro.

A different topic if you are interested;

As for macro, the p.s. has an advantage, if one uses their imagination they can have a kick ass combination of cam and magnifier as shown in my early pics using the S5000. Having said that, the p.s. may have excellent results in macro, it's pixelation factor is horrid, the quality of the image is soso. It takes a fair bit of p.s. to bring out some quality. Your crop factor is small, I would say 25 percent, go over that your image starts to pixelate.

It takes alot of money for a DSLR to kick ass in macro. LOL
Here, we have a combination of the 20D, Kaching!!! with a 70-200F/2.8 L kaching kaching kaching, and a 36mm Sigma Extention tube, free, thanks Gert. ;)

So, really, it's not about a DSLR or a p.s it's about the individual behind the camera. O.k. a DSLR helps the factor, however, if one has no handle in photography, the DSLR obviously will not produce.

For those who are looking to purchase a DSLR, go to the shop and handle it don't buy it right away from ebay, handle it, then go to ebay and get what you want if that's the route you are after. Is it user friendly, does it feel good in your hands, if so, buy it.
It will take a bit of time to get used to it, it did for me and many others here. Give it a chance, the camera is a totally different beast and if one is so used to automatic, one better learn photography 101 when using a DSLR. In the long run, ignoring weight etc. it's the best investment I made, well, I use it full time.
I have both, and both do their jobs accordingly.

a superb macro with a good POV,I like the fact that it almost looks like the grasshopper is floating in the air as BG and underground have almost identical colors,well done and TFS,

Hi Mike,
Great quality light here. Soft and warm. This has really created beautiful colors and tones. Very sharp detail. The 70-200 and extension tube works very well. I opted to take my extension tubes back and just get that macro lens I always wanted. I will eventually get some used extension tubes when I can find a set on ebay reasonable.

Beautiful macro, especially the non-existent background. Great informative note, as well. I'm thinking of getting an extension ring for use with my 70-200 after seeing your photos. How close can you get with that combination? Currently I can focus down to 1.2metres (about 4 feet) and the image is generally no bigger than my 50mm prime which can focus much closer.

Low and dirty... Nice POV. Mike it's sharp and well composed. I like it.

Every time some-one tells me "that lens surely takes nice pictures" I wish I could reply by saying "Your oven/stove should prepare wonderful food then.." ;)
