[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
For Peter Shutt, an incredible gentleman and nature photography enthusiast who guided as around Tommy Thomson Park and shared with us his knowledge about the place, about nature and even his pro-photo equipment. Thanks Peter!

Done in Tommy Thomson Park – Lake Ontario in a gloomy and wet day with freezing rain and drizzle – but beautiful and productive as nature trip.

Formerly known as Oldsquaw, the Long-tailed Duck breeds in the Arctic and winters along both coasts of North America. It is distinctive among ducks in plumage, molt sequences, foraging behavior, and vocalizations.

Description
Medium-sized diving duck.
Mostly black-and-white plumage, varying throughout year.
Black wings in all plumages.
Male has long central tail feathers and often a pink band near tip of black bill.

Size: 38-58 cm (15-23 in)
Wingspan: 72 cm (28 in)
Weight: 500-1100 g (17.65-38.83 ounces)

What an unusual fellow this duck is - I don't know his breed at all.
The pink on his beak is quite strange, and even his colours and patterns are different.
Thank you for sharing Mario

The small drop of water....makes this a complete image and thought Mario. What good eyes you have...It is a natural event on a simple day yet displays so much more than "just one more day"....I am certain Peter shall be happy...and I am as well if that means anything...

Hello Mario,
this is a fantastic capture of the long tailed duck. In winter plumage even more beautiful than the summer plumage. In wintertime they occur in small numbers along the dutch coast. In summertime I have seen them in their breeding areas in Spitsbergen. Truly a winning picture with the drop of water.
Regards, Jacob

Hello Mario,
Excellent capture of this Long-tailed Duck, a species common along the Baltic coast here in winter too. It's my favourite duck! Excellent exposure, sharp details and lovely colours. Well done!
Many thanks, Ulla

Hi Mario,
This is such a strange looking duck :)! I have never seen them in real. You had good timing to capture it with a little drop on his beak. Composition and low POV are perfect! Thanks,
Claudine
