Ruddy Turnstone (Arenaria interpres)
Photographed at Col. Sam Smith Park, Toronto, on Lake Ontario.
As their name suggests, turnstones often forage by turning over stones and other objects.
This wader breeds on rocky arctic coasts and tundra. On migration and in winter, mostly along rocky shores, but also sand beaches and mudflats.
It is a highly migratory bird, breeding in northern parts of Eurasia and North America and flying south to winter on coastlines almost worldwide. It is the only species of turnstone in much of its range and is often known simply as Turnstone. |

Hello Nancy,
Fantastic capture.
Lighting and composition are splendid.
Colours,sharpness and definition are great.
cool shot, i love these little felllows, here we usually see them in winter plumage which isn't as impressive as this color
nice composition, i think the white above the eye is a little washed out, but the screen of my laptop isn't that good,
well done

Hello Nancy,
Very good and beautiful photo of this Ruddy Turnstone. On a few places the whites are a little over exposed, but the rest of the colours are splendid. Good sharpness and the bird is isolated from the BG. Pleasant point of view and composition.
Regards,
Peter
