Hi Francois,
a beautiful image of this gannet. About your DOF: I think it is right here. Because the bill is not completely sharp the attentionis drawn to the eyes immedeately, and I think it works out really well here. With the beak in focus here the brown mud (?) would have attracted too much attention.
With f/8, 1/200 you could have gone to f11, but that's always easy talking afterwards...

Ceci est un merveilleux portrait de ce Fou de Bassan, bravo! Les détails sont très bons et je suis vraiment impressionnée par la couleur de ses yeux! Est-ce que ces oiseaux se laissent approcher facilement car tes photos semblent prises de tellement près malgré ton zoom? Merci,

I just love these birds. Your portrait is very well composed. The DOF is a tiny bit shallow and you might have gained some DOF if you switched to ISO400. I am sure the D200 can handle it. That said the shallow DOF is not too distracting and the focus is where it should be. The exposure is a bit under and I did a WS using shadows & highlights to "lighten" it a bit. Please let me know what you think. Well done.
