| Identification: (Drawn Photograph d' a calendar) This blue bird with the russet-red chest and the white belly likes partially released spaces because it is nourished on the ground of various insects. Parks, farms, fields with l' bleaches on grass and some trees or shrubs in the vicinity are favoured to install its nesting box. One will be able to see it, perched on a fence or a dry branch to launch out towards the ground to seek an insect there. It returns then to the same perch to eat. Behavior: In April or May, the male s' install on a wire or a branch released to launch its song so d' to attract a female. It can thus sing days and days for qu' it finally comes to visit the nesting boxes of the area. If it returns and leaves d' a nesting box several times, c' is the signal, it is d' agreement. The male continues it and as of the following day it starts to make its nest. C' is the male which controls work then. It supervises the comings and goings of his/her girlfriend and often will launch some cries to him if she takes too much time to continue her work. After a few days, the nest is ready. The 5 small ones will be nourished by the 2 parents during 15 days. There are sometimes two brooded and the last censuses note a progression of this very beautiful bird in Quebec. |

Wonderful capture, Joseph. A great specimen, and perfectly captured. Amazing details, a nice tight diagonal composition, good use of a limited DoF, and a story with the meal in his mouth (I'm assuming a male because of the bright coloring).
