[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The other day Bob Shannon posted a bumble bee on a flower and the first thought that came to my mind when I opened the thumbnail, is that it had similarities with one of my picture. I wrote to him that I would post it soon and here it is.

Well, when we think of it, as nature photographers on this site, we often take pictures of similar subjects in similar situations and environment, which gives way to similar pictures being posted.

As you can see, this picture was among my first attempts at macro shooting. I had read many books on the subject and learned that with macro, you need to use a tripod, be aware that the depth of field is very shallow and use the dof function on the camera. Also, the light is scarce when we take pictures so close to the subject, etc.

Yet, being who I am, a tired rebel ;-) (no, no, not retired yet!) or maybe I could say, an aging rebel, I didn't use any tripod, I didn't care about dof and used the wider one to gain some speed, and finally, the lighting, I didn't even gave it a thought.

Yet, I was surprised at some of the results and studying my pictures, I saw all the technical mistakes I was doing and confirmed what I read and learned a lot in the process. Now, it seems to me it's been a long time that I've taken pictures of flowers or insects in macro, and I think I would ponder a little bit more before clicking on the shutter release button.

But frankly, I like this picture very much even though the result is pure accident. The bumble bee remains a little sharp and the flowers around it give marvellous colours against the green of the background. It's moving around the bee when in fact the bee was moving and flying around the flowers.

So here's for you this post of my experimentations with macro photography. I didn't crop or change anything except a little sharpening for the bumble bee.

Thank you and good day to you! Here, it is cold but still sunny!

Francine

Hello Francine,
A dreamy image from the dreamy days of last summer. I can almost hear this bumblebee as she searches for nectar in the flower. She stands out well against the OOF natural green BG and the flower buds at the bottom of the image complete the composition in a fine way.
Thanks and have a good weekend,
Ivan

Hallo Francine
This is my kind of photograph. It has a soft female touch to it, and of course it has a imagineary purple frame around it formed by the purple flowers in the image. The colours is wonderful and very soft to the eye. Indeed a great pleasure to look at. Your pure accident image is indeed a sheer delight to look at and in my personal opinion a PPP - Pretty perfect picture. Thanks for sharing. Indeed a pleasure.
Best regards
Anna

Bonjour Francine,
Anne
