Here comes the sun, toudoudoudou, here comes the sun, and I say, it's allright, todoudoudoum, todoudoudoum, lalalala. Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter, Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here...

Even though last year was quite a wet summer, we managed to see flowers growing in the garden and in the fields. Nature is a tenacious little monkey ;-)

Here, in the cleared areas in the mountains, the fields get covered with Black-Eyed Susans ( Rudbeckia Hirta - Rudbeckie hérissée) and my yard gets covered with another kind, it is the Orange Coneflower (Rudbeckia Fulgida - Rudbeckie orangée), they grow everywhere in the garden, even where I don't want them to.

Black-Eyed Susans can grow from 30 to 90 cm which is quite tall. The stem and under the leaves are very hairy and almost stingy. Native Americans used root tea for worms, colds, external wash for sores, snakebites, swelling; root juice for earaches. The range of this plant is from the West coast of North America through the East coast.

There are many cultivars as well, many of those adapted for the gardeners. I shall take a picture of a field of those flowers, they are so beautiful and bright.

I think they are the most photographic flowers. They have a way to give themselves to the camera that very rarely other flowers do. I find, for example, Irises very difficult to photograph. But with Black Eyed Susans, it's always a marvel to open the files and discover the pictures.

I hope you enjoy too!

Francine

Hi Francine,

It's even a cold, dreary day here today and this is a welcome burst of sunshine. I've always loved Black-eyed Susans and of course, we have none here. Colors are marvelous, details of the flower are excellent. I love those pedals.

Hi Francine, you Beatles fan,you and I too say that it's alright! This photo has a cheerful and very brightly coloured look to it that reminds me that soon the warm weather will be upon this great land of ours and we will be free of all those heavy winter clothes. The focus is very good and the details are crisp and the center of the "eye" shows a beautiful geometry that follows the golden ratio, nature is a master artist and this photo shows what she does so very well and that is please our senses.I am winter weary this year more so than times in the past and tomorrow and into Sunday, High River and environs can look forward to 20cm of fresh snow, egads!A well exposed photo with crisp details and wonderful colour makes me say very well done.Thank you for this preview of what we have to look forward to in the months to come. Bob, in soon to be a snowed in High River.

Hi Francine,

Black eyed susan, that's a funny name :)

Good colourful snap and in indian tradition these colours are considered auspicious.

Thanks for posting!

Hi Francine-

Love the fine detail- the small hairs and the texture and spiral pattern of the brown center. A very nice antidote to the gray drabness of late winter. Maybe I'll have to do the same to keep my own spirits up this last few weeks before the flowers really start blooming.

Spring really is just around the corner... ...isn't it?

Bob

What an apt title, Francine! But then, what a shot, too!
Thisis a mind blowing shot!
Very well done!
Goldy

Hellow Francine,
Brilliant close up with warm colours and you have captured some fine details and patterns on the flower.
