[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
At dusk, everything is possible. The wind has calmed down, the animals prepare to rest and life gets as peaceful as can get. The ripples on the lake are appeased after shivering the whole day. Even ducks temporarily quiet down. Their last "walk" of the day. Where are they coming from? Where they're heading to? The mysteries of life are still unanswered yet the question remains in all of us: who are we? where are we? where are we going?

Last night, while walking the dogs, I witnessed a magnificent painting, alive in front my eyes to taste. The Mallard was standing on the small rock, preening at himself, when the Red-breasted Merganser flowed in front of him. Or is it a Common Merganser? In any case, it's a female or a juvenile.

The Merganser flowed slowly and passed its way right in front of the Mallard. Without a stop, a chat, a smile or even a wink. It kept flowing and flowing, heading to where it's heading to. Another mystery for us human beings. Where do they sleep? What do they feel? What do they see?

Death contains all those mysteries, reunited into one Great Mystery: Life. I dedicate this picture to Celtik and Ranger, the best friends of Asbed. Celtik has passed over the rainbow, quietly we hope, just like the merganser is following its path on this picture. Where to? We'll never know and can speculate. Analyse, calculate. Or we can bow to the majesty of life, it's inherent mysteries. We simple humans know what we know, feel what we feel yet the mystery remains.

Good to see you back, Asbed.

Francine

Hi Francine,

I'm not sure which is more beautiful - your picture or your words. Yes, this is a wonderful scene and your capture is lovely. We need to see peace and serenity in our world today. The Mallard watching the Merganser swim by, the wonderful colors of the trees and the water and the marvelous reflections all provide a feast for the eyes.

This PURE image is among the very best dedications I have ever read on TN. I know you are as Asbed a Francophone...and so you can easily speak in ways which jump idiomatic gaps. Yet beyond that...I can also empathize so much with Asbed that it's feeling carries over to your photo as if by magic...sometimes you take snapshots...this is a work of art! Asbed! Francine! Your are the heart of TN!

Francine,
Death is not the end. Death can never be the end.
Death is the road. Life is the traveller. The soul is the guide. There are questions we still have, still unanswered...We will all go there, travel that path...I'm glad you show us this beautiful shot that speaks so soulfully of life!
Life goes on...Shelley says:
"The comrade of thy wanderings over Heaven,
As then, when to outstrip thy skiey speed
Scarce seemed a vision; I would ne'er have striven
As thus with thee in prayer in my sore need.
Oh! lift me as a wave, a leaf, a cloud!
I fall upon the thorns of life! I bleed!"

He ends the poem with these verses

"Drive my dead thoughts over the universe
Like withered leaves to quicken a new birth!
And, by the incantation of this verse,
Scatter, as from an unextinguished hearth
Ashes and sparks, my words among mankind!
Be through my lips to unawakened Earth
The trumpet of a prophecy! O Wind,
If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?"

This shot is so tranquil, so poignant, it makes you think, think a lot many things!
Yes, you're the heart of TN, Francine!
Thanks so much!
Goldy

bonjour Francine

Hello Francine,
This beautiful image evokes memories from my stay in Canada years ago at this time of year. A wonderful tranquil scene the calm water reflecting the spring vigour and colors of the trees at its edge.
The male Mallard and female Merganser fit the scene superbly and are nicely shown in their habitat.
Thanks and best wishes,
Ivan

Bonjour Francine
Jacqueline

This quiet and tranquil scene sends you down the path to deep reflection on life and its mysteries, Francine. You have the soul of an artist, a poet, a philosopher. You sense and see beyond the manifest. You make people ponder.
The image in itself is soul-stirring; here is nature at repose.
I feel a deep sense of peace by looking at this picture. I could sit by the water and watch this view for hours and hours.
Regards.

Bonjour Francine,
Anne
