[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This one tonne walrus was sharing a piece of floating ice with me when I took this picture. This species lives in the eastern high Arctic. Up to this day little is known about these prehistoric-like mammals. It is a dangerous animal when in the water. It can attack boats. Inuit Peoples still hunt them , mostly for their tusks that they turn into amazing ( and expensive) carvings. The meat is mostly reserved for the dogs. The hunters would burry the meat for several months to make it " tender" before it goes to their dogs. This practice may have ceased now ( picture taken in 1988) as Inuits are abandoning their traditionnal way of life.

Cool portrait of this guy, Jean. You need more sharpness and to reduce shadows / contrast.

Here are two point for one worth smiling about...;-) Great shot! So, you were sharing his piece of floating ice? Must have been interesting...

Hello Jean
Wow is this Walrus huge. He's a real brute. I like the pose he's giving you, almost staring you down and don't come to close. His colour against the background in a nice contrast. Your note is interesting.
