Grizzly bear at Haines Junction in Yukon.

To make a small summary, we were, my sister and me, go make a trip to Alaska to see the bald eagles at the Alaska Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve via Skakgway, Haines and return to the Yukon by Haines Junction to go up Destruction Bay. But, I was very nervous to sleep in a tent, I have not slept for two first night. So when we back to the Yukon, I said to my sister that I'm going to rent a cabin. We stop between Dezodeash and Haines Junction for a rented one. There were three on the roadside. My sister goes to the office to inquire about the availability/price and I decided to leave the car to go see the courtyard behind the cabins. When I cross the trail between the Office and the first cabin and turning the corner, there was a grizzly who scratch the ground, just behind the second cabin (20 feet). At first I thought it was a fake, because he had not yet moved. But when he raised his head and fix me in the eye, I realized it was a true! I divert my eye to the ground and back gently sure it stays on the spot. But unfortunately, he did not make it. It gave me back a few steps and it is being advanced towards me, quietly, as to keep the gap we had in the beginning. So I continue to back until I arrive in the car, looking at the ground. And when he arrived at the height of the office and the first cabin, he smell the air and decide to go back in the bottom of the court. Once in the car. I'm trying to take my tripod and install my camera. 1 minutes later, because of my hands shaking, I shoot three photos before it disappears behind a mound of sand. I have not slept in a camping the rest of the trips and I do more left my bottle of bear spray!

This day was cloudy.

Salut Eric,
bravo pour cette prise de vue, sûrement plus risquée et palpitante que pour une abeille :)
Bonne composition générale, netteté maîtrisée.

Hello Eric
I like the colour of his fur and how he is very steadily walking towards you. . . It is as if he has no fear of you - but I wonder if you were fearful of him. . . I know I would be.
It's a good capture
TFS this awesome animal with us

great pic, lovely habitat, TFS Ori

The great variety in coat color is always interesting. This one is almost blond. There was equal variety among the three cubs I recently posted... all siblings. It is always exciting to spot a grizzly and doubly so when one can get the camera set up in time to shoot it!! Nice work on your part.

Hello Eric,
Impressive animal.
Evelynn said they were all in good condition through the very cold winter which provided them a lot of food.
You mentioned Adanac. We don't see him an awful lot lately?
How is he?

Hi Eric
