[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
"Paradise Valley" = "SHANGRI LA".

These names "Paradise Valley" and or "SHANGRI LA" are mere "pet" names that I chose for this subject.

You are looking at only a part of the Kananaskis Country park system, taken on 31st.December 2006 at about 03:18pm. on a cloudy and bitterly cold day. The sun was constantly playing hide & seek. It was most
difficult, at my age & frail health, to endure those
-49*C windy conditions on top of Sulpher Mountain. Did my best to register this document.

This photo was taken from atop of Sulpher Mountain viewing South East into Banff National Park leading us to the Spray Valley. This whole area is infested with wild life ... cougars, bears, (grizzly & black), deer, elk, etc: etc: etc: In addition, you are accompanied by beautiful birds. The lakes & ponds are teeming with trout. This is why I call it such names as "Paradise Valley" = "SHANGRI LA". Now you may say: " How does Oscarromulus know all this"? Well, I've been through this area when I was younger and full of health; have in my possession registered personal undisputable documentation in form of photos. Had two great hiking companions in those days. These were THE most beautiful moments of my existance in this, now badly damaged and polluted, world. We are destroying Mother Earth, the only beautiful home we have.

You need to "open" the "Map" below to begin to imagine the immensity of the KANANASKIS COUNTRY you have just visited.

Hi Mario

Your nostalgic notes filled me with a touch of sadness, but also with fond memories of my own youth when no mountain was too high or no trail was too stretched. Today its pain killers, braces, crutches, and sometimes even a wheelchair, while the only other alternative is a good nature DVD and the comfort of a recliner.

Those blue mountains sure does look cold with those extensive ice caps. Even the pine trees seem to be shivering (chuckle). The composition is interesting and conveys a sense of wide open space. The great difference in contrasts within the shot obviously gave you a torrid time to get the exposure 100%. The dark valley, the bright snow peaks, and the intense sky would stretch the technical ability of most photographers though. The colours and the details are fine.

Well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Hello Mario,
Good note to accompany this fine image!
Very well composed and with good details, but most impressive is how you create a feeling of depth by use of the foreground trees...
Lovely details and this place can easily pass for Shangri La!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Mario,

The blue colours on the slope of the mountains give a excellent contrast against the gold trees and the white mountains tops in background. Very well done.

Have a nice weekend,
John.

Hi Mario,
Before I saw the name of the picture I was thinking, Mario must have been to paradise to make this shot. Gorgeous landscape, somehow unreal, just paradise.
THANK'S A LOT

Hi Aires.
I like your choice of shooting time. Very expressive sunlight on the top and shadows on the bottom. Your shot looks like painted by water-colour. Delicateness of colour tones of the mountains and of the sky is fine. I also like trees as FG. Nicely composed impressive picture. My compliments and TFS.
Alexei.
