Todays posting is coming from my archives. Some occurances in ones' life stand out. Like your wedding, birth of children and death of a love one, these go without saying. But then there are surpises like this chance encounter with a wolf pack in Jasper National Park. I know I have posted images of that meeting before, but here I am back to that day. I can remember this encounter like it was yesterday, when this pack was inquisitive enough in me that they approached me to see what I was all about. The two boldest ones coming out of the trees to within a few meters of me. The feelings that day were elation at seeing a very elusive animal, apprehension as to what thier intentions were, amazement at how big and beautiful they were, and finally when the one howled only a few meters from me an emotion I struggle to find the words to discribe other that " raw ". The hair standing on the back of the neck and arms, the shiver going up your back and the weak in the knees type feeling. So thanks for allowing me to REMEMBER.

Hello Rick,
Amazing that you could come so close as to be able to take such a fine portrait of a Timber Wolf. The sharpness and detail are excellent and this grey guy really stands out against the natural BG in such fine composition.
A nice memento to post and I thank you for that.
Ivan

A very interesting picture in his eyes....I am staring into them and wondering what he is thinking...yet I also remember some times...with my dog which was a malamute/husky/wolf hybrid. I could look into his eyes and stare thinking one thing..then he would act in another way. He was very good at hiding his feelings and surprising me.

These are wonderful blessing to have...oh of course in pictures as this too. But memories and pictures combined...very powerful for the spirit nature in us yes? Nicely done and well worded notes Rick.

Hello Rick,
He or she doesn't like something; these eyes are talking...
You can't stop looking at the image; you can actually feel you were close.
Were you in some kind of vehicle or someting like that?

Ho Rick, this is a wild and great dog, absolutely strong and beautiful. I love the pose, the worrying frown in his eyes, he doesn't seem to know what to do as if you represented un unusual danger. I don't know how you get close to the animals like you do, how come you're not afraid... it's the "chi" of life going on into you! You must have been mesmerized, thanks for the great picture and note,

Salut Rick
Quelle belle tête. C'est la première fois que je vois un loup avec de telles couleurs. Très impressionnent. La pose, les couleurs et la précision de la photo est super.
Merci de ce partage,
Roger

Hi Rick - what great wolf photos you have. I must say I'm a bit jealous. I've worked that highway area just west of Jasper town site over and over again and the most I've come across is an unfortunately dead wolf pup that had been hit by a car. It does mean that they are in that area though.

I was just there about a week ago and spent a couple of hours at dawn hoping for wolves with no luck.

I'm thinking that when I do finally find them it will be all the sweeter for the journey.

I'm very impressed with not only your Jasper wolves, but the Cypress Hills as well. I thought they had all died out there. I'm thinking Rick that you are an intrepid 'courier, du bois', a runner of the woods, a gentleman adventurer. Thanks for sharing, motivating and inspiring.

I see the tiger images on here from the parks in India and want to go there, and then I see your wolf images and think....probably should just spend more time....'Close To Home'. Maybe one day we should have a beer and tell tall photo tales.

Hello Rick,
This is a fine portrait of this proud fellow!
Excellent details in the fur coat, and the special expression is well captured...
A well balanced composition with fine natural colours!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Wow, lucky you. I probably wouldn't have had the presence of mind to take a photo. I guess it would depend on how close I was to my vehicle. It's a dream to photograph a wolf one day. Great work.

Hello Rick

I remember when the wolves would howl and even though I was lying in bed on the third floor of the house where I lived,I had the hair on my neck go up.I would run to the window and I could hear them running and panting outside, with an occasional howl.My imagination would soar!
Awesome POV ,the shot is well composed with amazing eye contact.
This is gifted camera work.
