Hello everyone. This is another view of Lake Maligne I took a couple of months ago. I liked the contrast between the frozen lake, the misty, dark greens of the trees and the pale colours of the mountains at the far end of the mountain - one of the rounded ones is called 'Monk's Head' or something like - presumably because it vaguely resembles the shaved (or tonsured) head of a monk.

Maligne Lake is a lake in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada. It is located 44 km (27 mi) south of Jasper town site, accessible by motor vehicle. Boat trips run to Spirit Island, one of the most popular sights of Jasper National Park.

Maligne Lake is approximately 22.5 km (14 mi) long and is 97 m (318 ft) at its deepest point. It averages 35 m (115 ft) in depth. It sits at approximately 1,670 m (5,479 ft) asl. It boasts a resident self sustaining population of rainbow trout and brook trout.

Maligne lake is fed and drained by the Maligne River, which enters the lake on its south side, near Mount Unwin. The Maligne River drains the lake from its northern end. Maligne Lake, as well as Maligne River, Maligne Mountain, and Maligne Pass, takes its name from the French word for malignant or wicked. It is theorised that an early French voyageur created this name in reference to the current of the Maligne River near its confluence with the Athabasca River.

Hi James,
I have to fully agree with your likings of this photo. The contrast between the frozen lake and row of trees is wonderful. It does look like the air was very cool and gave this wonderful hazy look at the mountain range.

Hello James,
What a splendid soft blue-grey colours in this photo! The DOF and composition are also perfect. Great POV.
Kind regards,

Hello James,
Yes, you can detect a head into that specific mountain. I don't know whether it's a monk's head though. Looks a bit like a sphinx.
Good vantage point. Content is absolutely awesome. I like these different layers and forms.
Well done.
Thanks a lot
Annick

Hi James,
I like all the overlapping layers in you photo. I am very partial to images with snow and ice. I love whites and blues together. I do think May is the preferable month for travelling there. You captured the amazing scale of that park.

Hi James

Another very beautiful landscape from you!
The freezing blues here are gorgeous and the 3D effect of all the slopes are terrific. Indeed the contrast you mentioned is also wonderful and attracts a lot of attention.
Further more, the composition is also lovely, with 1/3 frozen lake, another about 1/3 forest and mountains and then a nice blue sky.
Great shot and great presentation!

Bravo and TFS

Hi James,

This looks so serene after looking at Bob's ferocious wave. The icy water is so beautiful with the mountains behind it. It must have been pretty chilly.

Hello James,
From the heat of the desert to to coolness of the mountains in the spring, quite the trip.
Beautiful image of a place I know well. Thanks James.

This is great James.
I have a few coming from this lake in the next few days.
They say Lake Louise is a the pearl of all lakes, but Maligne is the whole string of pearls.
To see it in sunlight or snow is beautiful. Nice vantage point.

Hallo James
Another one of your beautiful landscapes of your travelling adventures you are sharing with us. Although this scenery is very chilly looking ( I cannot handle cold weather ) I think seeing a landscape like this in real life must be an awesome experience. This is really a magnificent landscape, with a mix of different elements. Sky, mountians, water and many more. This is indeed a view to appreciate and to remember. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your day.
Kind regards
Anna
