Lake Louise, Banff National Park

Lake Louise has to be one of the most photographed locations in Alberta. The lake is a beautiful turquoise colour which is created from fine rock flour that flows into the lake from the Victoria Glacier in the far distant background.

At the end of this valley, high up the mountain, to the left is Abbot Pass Hut. The stone hut sits at an elevation of 9598 feet and was built in 1922. It's used by mountaineers (hopefully experienced). During the summer you can take a guided hike with the Alpine Club of Canada, the long steep hike takes 3 to 6 hours and the hut sleeps 24.

Lake Louise was named after Princess Louise Caroline Alberta the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria and wife of Sir John Campbell.

Banff National Park received it's name in 1883 when three Canadian Pacific Railway workers stumbled across a cave containing hot spring. Banff National Park was created. Canada's first national park and the worlds third. The park spans 6641 square kilometers or 2564 square miles. The park is home to valley, mountains, glaciers, forests, meadows and river, including the wildlife and fauna in the area.

Hi Janice,

Such a beautiful lake! I've been there several times. You've captured the color of the water very well. I don't recall seeing a shot from that location before. It's certainly an interesting POV -- especially, with the reflection of the glacier, and the lake level features. Thanks for posting such a well composed and attractive photo.

John

Hi Janice!

Everytime when I look at one of your pictures I think that you have well chosen your nickname here on TN. I can feel how much you love nature. This picture also reflects this. It's so simple and beautiful..., the low point of view and the lines in the water create a delightful perspective.

Kind regards

Markus

Hello Janice,
What a lovely view across this smooth lake to the tall mountains beyond. Great DOF and sharpness. I like the stones and grass in the foreground and the light and colours are marvellous. An excellent composition too.
