There aren't many birds that overwinter here in Alberta. So this is a relatively unexploited niche. But there are several of these little guys hanging out in the trees behind our house. My guidebook lists the Common Redpoll as "this common winter visitor arrives when most birds are leaving the province. Key marks are the red cap and black beard. Males also have a pink breast. Often found foraging on the ground for seeds (October - April)." The Housefich isn't listed, but another guide also lists it as a yearlong resident. So that is definitely a possibility. Thanks for your input.

Hi Mike,
yes, this is a redpoll, I love this pretty little birds so much. This year was the first year that they visited my garden and I also had the chance to make some shots.
Yours is a little noisy, anyway thanks for the shot, bye

I'm agree with Kermode. Your bird is not a redpole. I have a lot of redpol in my garden. You can take a look to my picture if you want to see some of them.
Thanks for sharing
Hello,
I am a birder from BC and I am writing to you because I believe that your bird is a Housefinch not a Redpole.
