[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
It seems like everybody has a dragonfly shot. I was feeling a bit left out. There don't seem to be too many in this area but I noticed one in the backyard today. So I put on my extension tube and chased one around. Now am I a member of the secret club?

Manual focus and flash fill. I had been shooting wide open to blur the bg, but I couldn't get enough DoF on the 'fly. So I closer her down to f/11. I think there's bit too much DoF, so next time I may try f/8.

PP: Sharpen, resize, and frame.

Hi Mike,
Well I don't know about the "secret" part..but I do know about the "bug" part :) Welcome to the "Bug Club".
Excellent use of the ext. tube with crisp sharp detail & great DOF throughout the dragons body.. Very good flashwork, BG, framing and POV as well. You've got a few of those pesky sensor spots in the BG :)

This shot is excellent. Well blanced composition.The main subject is nicely set off from the background. Great coloor and excellent sharpness.

Hello Mike, this is a fine macro indeed. I love the minute details like the fine hairs along the under-body. Composition is fine and good use of fill-flash. I would on this shot have maybe masked and saturated the dragonfly enhancing its colour and lifting it more from BG. (its just how I work my images sometimes). Very well done. P.S. Your post for today I was going to suggest a few things like including more of the truck and saturated that to compliment the various green's and textures, anyhow such is passed.

Hi Mike,
I see you went on the dragonfly tour as well. Looks like you've got that mastered as well. I find the DOF actually perfect, all parts of the dragonfly are in focus. The colors and details are stunning. I noticed the spots as well.
